WE MAKE CARPETS

WE MAKE CARPETS make everyday items of use into carpets with impressive sizes. Products that normally have no value once they have been used, such as plastic forks, plasters, paving tiles, pasta, cotton balls and pegs are arranged in an inventive way to form a graphic pattern.
WE MAKE CARPETS are inspired by the colour, shape and possibilities of the material chosen. The result is not just a decorative carpet, but an object that makes us think about the consumer society that produces these ‘weaving materials’. A contemporary interpretation of wealth. Check out their website for more of their brilliant work.

HANS VAN BENTEM

chandeliers by Dutch artist Hans van Bentem

JAMES CAUTY

James Cauty gained fame by a performance in which he burned a million pounds. He's a musician and contemporary artist.
THE AFTERMATH DISLOCATION PRINCIPLE Part IV exibited in Piet Hein Eek's exhibition space shows his preference for distressed scenes in a scaled landscape of 136 square meters.
It took him and his assistants eight months to built this miniature landscape which is cleverly accompanied by light and sound effects from police radio's.
At first glance it reminds you of a railway model layout. Watching closely one detects the detailed scenery of a world where all civilians seem to have disappeared and where only the authorities are left. Everything is destroyed but it looks like they have the situation under control. There's no indication to what could have caused the situation and what will happen next.

KITCHEN DESIGN PLANS

I love to create new projects in my home and for 2014 one of my wishes is to renew my kitchen. As an enthusiastic foodie i need to find myself cooking in the right environment. The most exciting plan is to make a window above the sink for lots of fresh air. Something my mind has been fixed on for some time and guess what.. my current house allows it! The second plan is a big sink split in two, not crazy but very convenient, and it will give me more space to work on at one end. The style will be different as shown on the picture below but this picture i found i hang on to until my plans are finished. Because when walls are torn down and dust is everywhere it shouldn't i remember exactly why i put myself through it.

LONDON JEWISH EAST END

Just before Xmas i like to visit London, this time not to be emerged in the crowds of Xmas shopping people, but exploring London's East End...it's trendy shops, restaurants and history...

Waves of foreign immigration began with Hugenot refugees creating a new extramural suburb in Spitalfield in the 17th century. They were followed by Irish weavers, Ashkenazi Jews and, in the 20th century, Bangladeshis. Many of these immigrants worked in the clothing industry. The abundance of semi- and unskilled labour led to low wages and poor conditions throughout the East End.
Fournier Street was the last to be built on the Wood-Michell estate in Spitalfields. The houses mainly date from the 1720's and were designed to be of a higher standard than previous residential developments. Consequently the houses were purchased and leased by the 'master' silk weavers and silk mercers. The buildings are notable for their wooden panelling and elaborate joinery such as carved staircases, fireplaces and highly detailed doorcases.
